A Miami police officer on an emergency call suffered serious injuries Monday afternoon when she lost control of her cruiser, hitting a pickup truck, authorities said.
The officer, whose name was not released, was taken to Ryder Trauma Center.
She was ``responding to an emergency back up call'' to help another officer trying to stop a stolen car, said Officer William Moreno, a Miami police spokesman.
The officer had her lights and sirens on as she drove eastbound on Northwest 20th Street near 18th Avenue.
``She made a maneuver to avoid colliding with a vehicle when she lost control,'' Moreno said. She hit a Ford F-150.
Other officers were at the scene quickly and found the officer ``unresponsive.''
She was talking to rescue crews who took her to the hospital, said Lt. Ignatius Carroll, a Miami Fire Rescue spokesman.
The driver of the pickup truck was treated at the scene, he said.
Another officer was treated for cuts when she helped pull the officer from the cruiser.
Police detained the driver of the stolen car.
